DMCC SIGNS UN WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT PRINCIPLES ADVANCING GENDER EQUALITY
ACHIEVING GENDER EQUALITY AND EMPOWERING WOMEN AND GIRLS IS THE UNFINISHED BUSINESS OF OUR TIME, AND THE GREATEST HUMAN RIGHTS CHALLENGE IN OUR WORLD.
In short, empowering women is our collective moral imperative.
We must all work together – across the entire spectrum of trade, enterprise and industry – to deliver gender equality and drive the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) forward.
International Women’s Day 2018 (IWD) serves as an important reminder to us all to do just that.
We must continue efforts to build a world free of discrimination and exclusion. We must continue to pursue an agenda that ensures all women and men are able to live lives of dignity, opportunity and prosperity. And we must continue to do what we can to inspire others.
To mark this important moment, we are proud to announce that our CEO, Gautam Sashittal has officially signed the CEO Statement of Support for the Women Empowerment Principles.
This move is an important one and serves to show that DMCC remains committed to the cause.
IWD is an opportunity to transform momentum into action, to empower women in all settings – rural and urban – and celebrate the people who work tirelessly to promote equal opportunities.
Thus, the responsibility to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is a shared one.
The 17 clearly defined goals – ranging from ending poverty to achieving quality education, from boosting equitable growth to preserving the environment – are strongly interconnected, and gender equality is pivotal to achieving them all.
We all have a role to play and that is why we at DMCC have organised a range of staff training sessions on gender equality, and will soon roll out a comprehensive WEPs assessment across the entire organisation to track progress our progress.
So join us in celebrating IWD, pressing forward and progressing gender parity.
